Wrestling Belts Crown The Winner
Wrestling, in its way to the current scenario, has taken many twists and turns to adapt itself to the changing outlook and craze of the public, and the introduction of wrestling belts is one of them. In the olden days, the winners of wrestling bouts were awarded prizes in cash or in kind, which was later replaced by the tradition of giving them a memento or a plaque. In modern times, however, mementos and plaques have given way to belts, which are considered more impressive and 'cool' by the fans of wrestling. Wrestling Belts can be better elucidated taking an example.
The World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is undoubtedly one of the best organizations that promote wrestling. WWE Belts are of various kinds, each one signifying its own value, given to wrestlers in each field. This may arouse a doubt, the doubt that questions the need for several belts when clearly, one wrestler is bound to outplay the others i.e. if one wrestler wins one belt, it means that he's better than the others, then obviously the other belts would go to him too. But that is not the case. The purpose of introducing different belts is to give more wrestlers the chance to win a title. This increases the commitment of the wrestlers. Wrestling belts are given depending upon the category to which they belong to. This may vary based on the style of wrestling, the nationality of the wrestler, and the level of wrestling, novice or expert. There are two sects of WWE, namely RAW and Smack Down. Let us now examine some of the WWE belts, first taking up the RAW belts.
RAW BELTS:
The biggest honor for a wrestler in RAW is the World Heavyweight Champion title belt. This award is given to the wrestlers who belong to the heavyweight class. Superstars competing for this belt constitute the elite group of wrestlers excelling in grappling and locks. The title match is generally based on a one-on-one match with the winner declared either by pin fall or by a tap out. The current World Heavyweight champion is Edge. The United States Champion belt is another belt that is reserved for wrestlers belonging to the United States of America. These wrestlers generally participate in a royal rumble match to decide the contender for the title. The contender then goes for a one-on-one match with the current champion. The last title match was a '2 out of 3 pin falls' match between champion Chris Benoit and contender MVP, which eventually, MVP won to become the new United States champion. SMACK DOWN BELTS: The counterpart of the World Heavyweight Champion belt of RAW, in Smackdown is the WWE Champion Belt. This belt is considered the most prestigious of all belts in Smackdown. The match for this title is a one-on-one match where the winner is selected by pin fall or by tap out. The last match for the WWE Champion was held at Wrestlemania where champion John Cena took on contender Shawn Michaels. After a bloody and brutal match, John Cena emerged victorious and retained his title. Another title belt is the Tag Team Champions belt, where two wresters team up to take on two more wrestlers. The current Tag Team Champions are Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch.
